He moved to New York in 1979, where he wanted to make photographic career. Portfolios sent some fashion photographers, but their efforts were rewarded. Due to its failure and a broken sentimental, Woodman enters a depression. On January 19, 1981 Francesca Woodman committed suicide by jumping out a window on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Before killing himself, in a letter to a school friend, Sloan Rankin, wrote the following words.
